Mumbai: The trailer of Aneet Padda and Fatima Sana Shaikh’s ‘Hunkkaar: The Roar’ is out, promising a gripping battle against power, influence and injustice.
Aneet plays Meenu, a young woman who accuses a powerful spiritual guru of abuse, while Fatima portrays an ACP determined to investigate the allegations despite facing threats from his influential clan.
The trailer begins with Meenu at a police station, where she files a complaint against spiritual guru Baapji, played by Raghubir Yadav. However, speaking out comes at a cost as Meenu faces questions about her character and motives. Even her father doubts her claims, suggesting that she does not fit society’s idea of how a victim should behave.
Meanwhile, ACP Jasleen Singh Soni, played by Fatima, takes up Meenu’s case and begins investigating the allegations against Baapji. Her pursuit of the truth soon puts her in the crosshairs of his powerful and intimidating clan.
Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub portrays a lawyer who supports Meenu and takes up her case, while Ram Kapoor plays Baapji’s defence lawyer. Arjun Mathur features as a television journalist covering the allegations and following the case closely.
Aneet filmed Hunkkaar before rising to national fame with her breakthrough performance in Saiyaara. The series is directed by Karan D Kapadia, Nitya Mehra and Heeraz Marfatia, and created by Karan D Kapadia and Nitya Mehra.
Talking about playing Meenu Rawat, Aneet said, “Meenu isn’t defined by what happened to her, but by what she chooses after. She’s young, complicated and not always easy to understand, that’s what makes her real. Her one constant? A refusal to be silenced. I hope audiences see her vulnerability and the defiance at the heart of her journey.”
Hunkkaar: The Roar is produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment in association with Purple Pebble Pictures. Priyanka Chopra Jonas serves as the executive producer.
Speaking about the show, Priyanka said, “As a producer, I’ve always wanted to stand behind stories that have something to say, and Hunkkaar: The Roar is very much that. I also really believe in Nitya and Karan as filmmakers. I’m incredibly proud of what this entire cast and crew has created, and it’s been a privilege to be a small part of this journey. I hope the story stays with audiences the way it stayed with me.”
The series is set to premiere on JioHotstar on September 25.
