Hyderabad: An 86-year-old industrialist was allegedly murdered by his grandson over a property dispute.
According to police, V C Janardhan Rao, chairman and managing director of Hyderabad-based Veljan Group, succumbed to multiple stab wounds.
The crime took place on the night of February 6 when the accused, K Kirti Teja, attacked his grandfather with a kitchen knife, reported PTI.
When Teja’s mother tried to intervene, she was also stabbed. The mother is undergoing treatment at a city hospital, informed Panjagutta police.
Teja was arrested on Saturday.
The accused, who live in another part of the city with his mother, visited Rao’s house in Somajiguda on Thursday. When she went to get coffee, an argument broke out between Teja and Rao over the distribution of his property, police informed.
Teja took out a knife and pounced on his grandfather, accusing him of being indifferent towards him since childhood and “refusing” to distribute the property to him, preliminary investigation revealed.
Teja, who recently returned to Hyderabad from the US after completing his Master’s degree, was arrested based on a complaint and a case of murder registered against him.
