Hyderabad Is Only Telangana Capital From Today, Andhra Pradesh Has No Capital For Now
Hyderabad: After serving as the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for a decade, Hyderabad will cease to be the official capital of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. It will serve as only Telangana capital.
Hyderabad severed as the joint capital for 10 years as per the mandate of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014, after Telangana came into existence on June 2, 2014.
While Hyderabad remains with Telangana, Andhra Pradesh has no permanent capital as of now. Though Andhra Pradesh had stopped using Hyderabad as capital after the bifurcation in 2014, the fight within the state over having the capital in Vishakhapatnam or Amravati continues.
Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had said if he comes back to power Vishakhapatnam will serve as the administrative capital, Amravati will house the legislature and Kurnool will be the judicial capital.
Andhra Pradesh is among the states that went to polls for both Lok Sabha and Assembly seats together and are awaiting results on June 4.
The new capital will be decided by the new government of Andhra Pradesh.
