Hyderabad Returnee Hangs Self To Death At COVID Care Centre In Odisha, Suicide Note Recovered
Kandhamal: A migrant, who had recently returned from Hyderabad, allegedly committed suicide at a COVID care centre in Kandhamal district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Sampurna Majhi. He was a native of Budelpadar under Tumudibandh police limits in the district.
According to the sources, Majhi had returned to his village after completing the institutional quarantine period. After some days, he fell ill. He was admitted to the COVID care centre at Government Girls’ High School, Badagaon, in Baliguda on June 16 after his health condition deteriorated.
Balliguda Sub-Collector Nanda told the media that Majhi ended his life by hanging himself with a bedsheet. A suicide note was recovered from the room where he was found dead.
The sub-collector further said that his swab sample has been sent for the COVID-19 test and the results are awaited. Majhi was under mental stress, he added.
The district administration has also provided a COVID-19 kit to the deceased’s family and assured them financial assistance from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), Red Cross, and Harischandra Yojana.
