Mumbai: Sanjay Dutt has spoken about his desire for greater peace in India, saying he “can’t feel that peace” in the country anymore.
The actor also expressed hope that the “days” he remembers will return soon.
The actor brought back his iconic Munna Bhai avatar for a Gandhi Jayanti special of Shekhar Suman’s Shekhar Tonite, delivering a satirical five-minute “Prime Minister” speech.
Before the segment, however, Sanjay spoke about India and expressed his wish for greater peace in the country.
“The people of this country are so lovely. There should be peace here. I can’t feel that peace in our country anymore. We Indians are large-hearted people and we are hospitable. We have given so much, and we should always remain that way. I pray to Shivji that those days come back soon,” he said.
The conversation took a lighter turn when Sanjay was asked what he would say to the nation if he became Prime Minister for five minutes.
“Chalo desh mein kuch to chal rehla hai. Mere pyaare deshwasiyo, aaj apun aapka PM banke khub khush hua. Bole to body mein ajeeb type ka tarang daud re la hai. Bole to itna bada desh hai, itne saare log hain aur ab hum sabki zimmedari apun ke upar (Come on, at least something is happening in the country. My dear fellow citizens, today I am extremely happy to become your PM. I mean, there’s a strange kind of excitement running through my body. I mean, this is such a huge country with so many people, and now the responsibility of all of us rests on my shoulders),” he said.
Continuing his mock address, Sanjay joked that he would stay among the people rather than travel abroad after becoming Prime Minister.
“Lekin aap log ekdum tension nahi lene ka. Apun is khushi ko celebrate karne videsh nahi jaane wala hai. Apun idharich rahega, aap sab logon ke beech. Nahi to PM aur janta mein connection kaise banega (But you people don’t need to worry at all. I’m not going abroad to celebrate this happiness. I’ll stay right here, among all of you. Otherwise, how will the connection between the PM and the people be established?),” he said.
The comment was delivered in jest as part of the sketch, with Sanjay staying in character and maintaining his exaggerated Munna Bhai delivery throughout.
