New Delhi: Amid the coronavirus pandemic across the world, the International Cricket Council (ICC) could postpone this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia to 2022. The move might open the doors for Indian Premier League (IPL) to be held in October, as per sources.
The ICC could make a formal announcement in this regard on Thursday (May 28) after its board meet.
“There is a good chance that postponement of World T20 will be decided during Thursday’s board meeting. Whether there will be a formal announcement or not is the question,” an ICC board member told PTI.
Besides, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to organise IPL in October. However, the decision will depend on the COVID-19 situation in the country, as per sources.
Meanwhile, the ICC board has sought a response from BCCI regarding tax exemption for the 2021 World T20 in India.
