New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly rejected the plea of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to relocate their T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka.
The development comes days after the BCB wrote sent a request to the global body seeking the relocation of their matches citing security concerns for their players in India.
As per information, the ICC is understood to have said that Bangladesh will need to travel to India or risk forfeiting points. The BCB has reportedly claimed no such ultimatum has been relayed to them by the governing body.
The global body reportedly said that Bangladesh would have to travel to India to play their T20 World Cup matches or would have to risk forfeiting their points if they refuse to do so, as per reports from ESPNCricinfo.
The report claims that the BCB has denied any such communication from the ICC. The BCCI or the BCB are yet to issue any official communication about the reported call with ICC officials on Tuesday.
The row, which stems from escalating political tensions between India and Bangladesh, got compounded after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) directed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL 2026 squad. This move followed concerns over recent developments, including reported attacks on minorities in Bangladesh.
Responding to this move, the BCB, citing safety and security concerns for players, officials, and stakeholders requested the ICC to shift all of Bangladesh’s matches to venues outside India, preferably Sri Lanka, one of the co-hosts.
