Cuttack: Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Chauliaganj police station Beauty Mohanty was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Saturday morning.
She was found hanging in her official quarters in Odisha’s Kataka city. “Her domestic help repeatedly called her for dinner on Friday night, but she did not answer the phone. When she did not come out of her r
oom on Saturday morning, she was checked on and found hanging from the ceiling,” commissioner of police (CP) S Dev Datta Singh told news agency PTI.
The CP said that the entire police commissionerate was deeply saddened by the incident, noting that she was an exceptionally resilient officer. “She never shared about her problems with us,” he added.
The body was sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital for postmortem examination and her family was informed about her death.
Though preliminary investigation points to death by suicide, CCTV footage from the premises and her call records are being examined to determine whom she spoke to last. Investigations are also underway to understand if she was facing any professional pressure or personal issues, though colleagues noted she showed no visible signs of mental distress or depression before the incident.
Prior to her posting at the Chauliaganj police station, she had served as the IIC of Pahala, Markatnagar, and the Mahila police stations.
