Cuttack: Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Chauliaganj police station Beauty Mohanty was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Saturday morning.
She was found hanging inside the rest room on the top floor of three-storey police station building. “Her colleagues grew concerned after she failed to respond to repeated knocks. Upon forcing entry into the room, they found her hanging. She was immediately rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Her family has been notified of the heartbreaking incident,” Cuttack Additional DCP Amarendra Panda told the media.
Sources said Mohanty’s behaviour and interactions with staff appeared normal while she was at the police station. She went up to the rest room later in the night. “She finished her duties last night as usual and went to her room upstairs to rest. Later, she was found hanging in the morning. I last saw her around 9.30 pm last night,” another colleague said.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot upon receiving information. The CCTV footage from the premises and call records are being examined to determine whom she spoke to last. Investigations are also underway to understand if she was facing any professional pressure or personal issues, though colleagues noted she showed no visible signs of mental distress or depression before the incident.
The Cuttack DCP is personally monitoring the investigation.
Prior to her posting at the Chauliaganj police station, she had served as the IIC of Pahala, Markatnagar, and the Mahila police stations.
