Mumbai: Aamir Khan and Fatima Sana Shaikh’s pairing in ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ was apparently not well received by the audience.
The reason — Fatima had earlier played the role of Aamir’s daughter in ‘Dangal’.
In a recent interview with Lallantop, Aamir opened up about the casting of Fatima as his lover in ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ and said that he is not her real father to feel awkward to romance her on screen.
He recalled that the casting of female lead in the film was not easy.
“When we were casting for it, no other female actor said yes to this part. Deepika, Alia, Shraddha, they all refused. That film was offered to the entire industry, but no one wanted to do it,” recalled Aamir.
Aamir remembered the director saying, “We won’t have a romantic track between you and her because she was your daughter in Dangal, how can she play your girlfriend here? Audience will reject this.”
But Aamir disagreed with the director. “I don’t believe in all of this. Main asal mein thode uska baap hun, aur na asal mein main uska boyfriend hun. Hum log film bana rahe hain bhai,” he said.
Explaining his point of view, Aamir said, “Audience is not this stupid that they will think that he is the actual father. We are underestimating our audience if we say that.”
On the work front, Aamir’s recent outing ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, a sequel to the blockbuster film ‘Taare Zameen Par’, has impressed the audience.
