IMD Forecasts Thunderstorm & Widespread Rainfall In Odisha For 3 Days
Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorm and gusty surface wind along with widespread rainfall in several districts of Odisha in next 3 days.
The regional centre of the IMD in Bhubaneswar, in a bulletin on Friday, said an east-west trough runs from cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan & adjoining Kutch to Bangladesh across Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal at 1.5 km above mean level.
A trough/wind discontinuity runs from interior Tamil Nadu to central Madhya Pradesh across Rayalaseema, Telangana and Vidarbha at 0.9 km above mean sea level. Thursday’s trough from Bangladesh & neighbourhood to north Coastal Andhra Pradesh across Gangetic West Bengal & Odisha has become less marked.
Under influence of these meteorological features and moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, moderate thunderstorm activity with lightning, hail, gusty surface wind and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over the districts of Odisha are likely within next 3 days.
Issuing a yellow warning for Saturday, the IMD said thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal,
Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore.
Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely at one or two places in the rest districts. Besides, hailstorm at one or two places is likely in Nuapada, Balangir and Kalahandi districts, the IMD added.
Light to moderate rain/thunderstorm has occurred at a few places in South Odisha, at one or two places in North Interior Odisha with heavy rainfall at one place in Koraput. Hailstorm activity with gusty surface wind have been reported in Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam ad Rayagada districts during the past 24 hrs.
Lamataput in Koraput received highest rainfall of 7 mm, followed by Pottangi in Koraput with 6 mm, Sheragada (Ganjam) 5, Daringibadi (Kandhamal) 4, Tikabali (Kandhamal) 3, Nabarangpur (Nabarangpur) 3, Khajuripada (Kandhamal) 2, Sankheimundi (Ganjam) 2, Bisam-Cuttack (Rayagada) 2, Papadahandi (Nabarangpur) 2 and Athmalik (Angul) 2 mm.
