Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a heavy rainfall warning in Odisha for the coming four days.
“A cyclonic circulation formed over the north Bay of Bengal and its adjoining areas on Thursday has turned into a low-pressure area on Friday. Besides, another cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Pradesh coast now lies over the west-central Bay of Bengal off the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts and extends between 3.1 and 7.6km above mean sea level, tilting towards the south-west direction,” said a morning bulletin of the IMD.
“Also, a monsoon trough stretching from north-west Uttar Pradesh to Arunachal Pradesh across the north-east Uttar Pradesh, north Bihar, sub-Himalayan Bengal and Assam, has become active. Under its influence, there would be isolated heavy rainfall and heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in most parts of the state from June 29 to July 2.”
In view of the heavy rainfall, IMD has issued yellow (heavy rainfall) and orange (heavy to very heavy rainfall) warning for the districts as mentioned below.
Yellow warning
Balasore (June 29), Bhadrak (June 29, 30 and July 1), Jajpur (June 29, 30 and July 1), Kendrapara (June 29, 30 and July 1), Jagatsinghpur (July 1), Cuttack (June 29, 30 and July 1), Sundargarh (June 30), Dhenkanal (June 30), Keonjhar (June 30), Mayurbhanj (June 29 and 30), Sonepur (July 1), Boudh (July 1), Nuapada (July 2), Kalahandi (July 1), Kandhamal (July 1), Nabarangpur (June 30 and July 2), Rayagada (July 2), Koraput (June 29, 30, July 1 and 2), Gajapati (June 29), Ganjam (July 1 and 2), Puri (July 1 and 2), Khurda (July 1 and 2) and Nayagarh (July 1 and 2)
Orange warning
Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi and Kandhamal on June 2.
Meanwhile, the rainfall recorded till 8.30am on Friday was highest in Hirakud (43.5mm) followed by Cuttack (38), Sambalpur (32), Bhubaneswar (28.8), Puri (24.8), Talcher (16), Balangir (8), Baripada (7.6) and Balasore (6.6).
