IMD Issues ‘Orange’ Alert For Several Odisha Districts; 3 Killed In Lightning Strike In Mayurbhanj
Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its mid-day weather bulletin on Friday has issued ‘Orange’ warning over thunderstorm and light to moderate rainfall for several districts of Odisha.
In its bulletin, the IMD said that a trough at 1.5 km above mean sea level has been observed shifting from north Bihar to southeast Madhya Pradesh across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh. Besides this, some cyclonic disruptions are also witnessed over North-East Vidarbha at 0.9 km above sea level.
Amid these disruptions, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed at 40-50 kmph has been predicted to occur at one or two places in Kalahandi, aolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Khurda, Kendrapada and Jharsuguda.
Besides this, hail storm/heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur.
Moreover, the Regional Meteorological Centre also warned of thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall at some places over the districts of Kandhamal, Angul, Gajapati, Khurda and Puri till 6:30 PM.
However, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Raygada, and Nuapada have received ‘Yellow’ warning from the meteorological centre.
Meanwhile, three fishermen of Mayurbhanj district have reportedly been killed in lightning strikes.
