IMD Issues Very Heavy Rain Warning For Coastal Odisha On July 18; Check Forecast For 5 Days

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy rain in Odisha from July 18 with the likely formation of a cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal around July 16 and its further intensification into a low pressure area over the same reason around July 19.

While the state is likely to experience heavy rain for four days, the intensity of downpour may increase from July 18.

Heavy rain may lash one or two places in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir till 8.30 am on Saturday with light to moderate rain at many places in remaining districts of the state.

The MeT office has also issued yellow warning for light to moderate rain/thundershower with lightning in some parts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Khurda ( including Bhubaneswar), Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal and Ganjam till 3.30 pm.

On July 15, heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Dhenkanal and Boudh. There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain or thundershower at most places in North Coastal Odisha and at many places in rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow warning for heavy rain has been issued for one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Boudh and Sambalpur districts during the subsequent 24 hours (July 16) with light to moderate rain or thundershower at most places in South Interior Odisha and at many places in remaining parts of the state.

On July 17, heavy rain may occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur with light to moderate rain at many places in the state.

The IMD has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Puri, Cuttack and Dhenkanal and heavy rainfall at some places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi on July 18. Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely at most places across Odisha during this period, according to the midday bulletin.

“A low pressure area is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining area around July 19 and intensify into a depression over the same region during next 48 hours and subsequently move west-northwestward towards central India across Odisha and Chhattisgarh. So, monsoon trough is likely to be active and south of its normal position during most days of the week,” the weather agency had said in its Extended range Outlook.

The weather agency further added that isolated heavy rainfall may occur in Odisha during next 5 days and then increase from July 19.
