Bhubaneswar: After making the landfall in north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast near Palasa in Srikakulam district to the south-west of Gopalpur in the early hours of Thursday, the very severe cyclonic storm has now moved towards the north-west direction towards the Gangetic West Bengal along the Odisha coast.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), after the landfall, Titli will weaken further and move in the north-west direction towards Gangetic West Bengal along the coast of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Kendrapara, Balasore and Bhadrak districts. Though the wind speed will be around 100-120 kmph, there will be very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in these coastal districts in the next 48 hours. Besides, there will be isolated heavy rainfall at some places in the interior districts.
Considering the heavy rain forecast, there is a possibility of flood situation mostly in Rushikulya, Bansadhara, Mahanadi, Brahmani and Baitarani rivers in these seven coastal districts.

Meanwhile, rainfall recorded in the coastal districts till 5.30 am on Thursday was the highest in Balasore at 112 mm followed by 111 mm in Paradip.
According to reports from Brahmagiri in Puri district, people of Arakhakuda panchayat are in a state of panic as the mouth at the Chilika lake opened early morning. With the opening of the mouth, there is a possibility of the lake tide entering about 15 villages.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will hold another review meeting at the State Secretariat at 11.45 am. Prior to the review meeting, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi will have a video conferencing with the districts collectors at 11.15 am and ask them to submit a preliminary report on the extent of damage rendered by the cyclone Titli.
