Mumbai: An Indian movie will, for the first time, be immortalised in London.
A bronze statue of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, depicting an iconic pose from their legendary film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, will be installed at London.
The statue will become part of the popular ‘Scenes in the Square’ movie trail at Leicester Square, an extremely popular pedestrianised square in London’s entertainment district.
Confirming the news, the Heart of London Business Alliance said on Wednesday that the statue is scheduled to be unveiled in spring, ahead of the film’s 30th anniversary.
The new statue will be placed on the eastern terrace outside the Odeon cinema, paying tribute to an iconic scene from the film.
“The statue is a fitting tribute to the global popularity of Bollywood and a celebration of London’s rich diversity. We’re in no doubt it will attract fans from all around the world to Leicester Square, the home of film and entertainment,” said Mark Williams, deputy chief executive of Heart of London Business Alliance.
The film, which was released in theatres on October 20, 2025, marked Aditya Chopra’s debut as director and was produced by his father Yash Chopra, under the Yash Raj Films banner.
The film continues to be screened at Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir theatre, and holds the record for longest-running movie in the history of Indian cinema.
A large part of DDLJ was shot in the UK. The film depicts the story of two young non-resident Indians Raj and Simran, who fall in love during a European vacation with friends.
