In Respite From Heatwave, Mercury Likely to Fall By 2-3°C In Odisha; Check Details

Bhubaneswar: In some relief from the heatwave conditions sweeping Odisha, the maximum temperature is likely to decrease by 2-3 degrees Celsius across the state in the next two days under the influence of the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here said on Friday.

It is after almost two decades that the Indian Ocean will see a storm in the month of March. If the system intensifies into a cyclonic storm, it will be called ‘Cyclone Asani’, a name given by Sri Lanka.

Heatwave conditions prevailed in Odisha on Thursday with as many as eight urban centres recording over 39 degrees Celsius. Balangir town was the hottest place in the state on Thursday at 40.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Boudh at 40 degrees Celsius.

Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered 36.2 and 37.8 degrees Celsius respectively on Thursday.

Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra on Thursday reviewed the preparedness at the field level to tackle the heatwave conditions.

The regional Met centre here on Thursday said the day temperature will remain high till March 19 morning.
