INDIA Bloc Pushes For Caste Census, To Hold 1st Joint Public Rally In Early October
New Delhi: The INDIA Opposition alliance has agreed to take up the issue of caste census, Congress leader KC Venugopal said after the bloc’s first coordination committee meeting here on Wednesday evening.
The alliance comprising 28 Opposition parties has decided to hold its first public meeting in Bhopal in the first week of October.
“The issues to be highlighted at the joint public meeting are rising prices, unemployment and corruption of the BJP government.
On the important matter of seat sharing in Lok Sabha elections, the coordination committee will start the process soon.
“It was decided that the member parties will hold talks and decide at the earliest (on seat sharing),” a joint statement of the committee said.
Of the 13-member coordination committee announced two weeks ago, Trinamool Congress’ Abhishek Banerjee was absent as he was summoned by Enforcement Directorate today.
One seat was kept empty for him as a symbolic gesture to protest against BJP’s ‘vindictive politics’.
The INDIA group has also formed a sub-committee to identify TV channels and news organisations on which their leaders won’t appear.
