India Bounce Back At MCG, Thrash Aussies By 8 Wickets To Level Series 1-1
Melbourne: After being humiliated in the first Test at Adelaide, India bounced back in the Boxing Day Test against Australia with an emphatic eight-wicket victory with more than a day to spare at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Tuesday.
After restricting the hosts to 200 in their second innings, India completed the historic win by chasing the target of paltry 70 runs losing the wickets of Mayank Agarwal (5) and Cheteshwar Pujara (3).
Debutant Shubhman Gill, who justified his selection in the first innings with 45 runs, remained unbeaten on 35 off 36 balls with seven boundaries while stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane remained not out on 27 after having scored his 12th century in the first essay.
For his crucial knock of 112 in the first innings, Rahane was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Brief scores: Australia 195 & 200. India 326 & 70-2. India won by 8 wickets.
