United Nations: India at the United Nations (UN) has called for permanent removal of the issue of Jammu and Kashmir under “outdated agenda item” of the “India-Pakistan question” from the Security Council’s agenda, and said, such “irrational exuberance” has no place in a dignified world.
Munir Akram, Pakistan’s UN envoy had picked up the issue of Jammu and Kashmir at the time of the virtual informal meeting of the plenary on the annual report of the Security Council. He said the Security Council is lacking in the implementation of its resolutions and decisions on the Jammu and Kashmir situation.
India without naming Pakistan said that the other side of the delegation desperately tries to rebrand itself as a contributor to global peace, but unfortunately fails and is internationally known for being the terror hub.
“This delegation keeps pushing for discussions on an outdated agenda item in the Council, which for all matters needs to be removed from the Council’s agenda permanently. Such irrational exuberance has no takers in a dignified world,” India said on the ‘Report of the Security Council for 2019’, quoted by India Today.
A summary statement by the Secretary-General of “matters of which the Security Council is seized” on August 3, 2020, listed ‘The India-Pakistan question’ in those issues that the council will not consider at a “formal meeting.”
India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador TS Tirumurti told PTI that contrary to what Pakistan may claim, Islamabad has not been successful in trying to put Jammu and Kashmir on the UN agenda.
He further said, “Frankly, the attempt by Pakistan to try and make it an international issue, is nothing new.”
