New Delhi: India is concerned about the recent developments in Venezuela, external affairs minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday, calling on all parties to prioritise the well-being and safety of the people amid the unfolding crisis.
“India is concerned about recent developments and urges all parties to prioritise the well-being and safety of people,” Jaishankar said, outlining New Delhi’s position on the situation, as reported by News18.
Jaishankar’s remarks came on the sidelines of his meeting with Luxembourg’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister Xavier Bettel, where the two leaders reviewed bilateral ties and discussed key areas for future cooperation.
Relations between India and Venezuela go back several decades and the primary concern is the safety and welfare of the people of that country, the Indian foreign minister said, as per a video clip shared by PTI.
Emphasising the depth of the relationship between India and Luxembourg, Jaishankar said the two countries share 78 years of diplomatic ties and that New Delhi sees Luxembourg as an important partner in its own right as well as within the European Union.
Jaishankar praised Bettel’s role in strengthening ties and said that Luxembourg has been a strong advocate for deepening India-EU relations. He noted that while trade between the two countries is robust, there is significant scope to expand collaboration in emerging sectors.
“Many of the interesting issues of our times, such as FinTech, space, the digital world, and AI, are areas where we can elaborate much more productively,” he said.
Discussions covered bilateral cooperation and the global situation, with a focus on finance, investments, digital technologies, AI, space and talent mobility, alongside continued efforts to deepen India-EU ties, Jaishankar said on X after the meeting.
