India Dismisses Critical US Human Rights Report As Deeply Biased: ‘Attach No Value To It’

New Delhi: The Centre on Thursday described a US State Department report, critical of human rights in India, as “deeply biased”.

Further, the Indian government attaches no importance to the report.

The annual human rights assessment, released on Monday, found “significant” abuses in Manipur last year and attacks on minorities, journalists and dissenting voices in the rest of the country, reported Reuters.

Asked about the government’s response, Indian Foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jasiwal dismissed the US State department report.

“As per our understanding, the report is deeply biased and reflects a very poor understanding of India. We attach no value to it and urge you to also do the same,” Jaiswal told newspersons on Thursday.

India and the US share a tight partnership, but there have been some minor bumps recently with Joe Biden’s administration bringing up some contentious issues in our country.

A US State Department official’s remarks last month over the arrest of Opposition leader Arvind Kejriwal didn’t please New Delhi at all.

India also rubbished US concerns over the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019, and called them “misplaced” and “unwarranted.”

Last year, US accused Indian agents of being involved in a failed assassination plot against a Sikh separatist leader on American soil.

India said it launched an investigation into the US accusations. There has been no update so far on status or findings of the probe.
