Cuttack: A special German machine is being used to lay out a world-class playing surface at Barabati Stadium for the second ODI between India and England, to be played here on February 9.
The five-layer grass designer machine, procured by the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) for Rs 80 lakh, will help give the ground surface a design comparable to that of international cricket grounds in Australia and South Africa.
“The machine was procured for a staggering Rs 80 lakh. A dedicated team has been formed to carry out the grass design work. This initiative is not just about enhancing the visual appeal of the ground but also ensuring the comfort and safety of the players,” said OCA secretary Sanjay Behera.
OCA has provided specialised training to technicians who are overseeing the machine’s functioning, informed Behera.
It will be a grand spectacle for spectators at the Barabati Stadium on Sunday. All tickets for the second ODI have already been sold out.
The three-match ODI series got underway at Nagpur on Thursday.
