India, Mongolia Observe Silence In Memory Of Odisha Train Accident Victims At Kalinga Stadium
Bhubaneswar: The Indian and Mongolian teams observed a minute’s silence in memory of the victims of last week’s horrific triple-train tragedy, ahead of their Intercontinental Cup clash at Kalinga Stadium here on Friday evening.
In what was one of the worst train accidents in India, 288 people lost their lives after the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express entered the loop line at Bahanaga Bazar in Odisha’s Balasore district, rammed into a stationary goods train and got derailed before the Yeshvanthpur-Howrah Superfast Express arrived from the opposite side and crashed into the Coromandel bogies which were scattered on the Down line.
The four-team Intercontinental Cup got underway today with Lebanon overcoming Vanuatu 3-1.
India, Lebanon, Mongolia and Vanuatu will play each other in a round-robin league before the top two teams clash in the final on June 18.
