India Records 75K Plus COVID-19 Cases For Third Straight Day

New Delhi: India’s COVID-19 tally raced past 34 lakh to stand at 34,63,972 on Saturday with an overnight spike of 76,472 cases.

This is the third day in a row that India has reported single-day spike of above 75,000 cases.

The country’s trajectory of daily new COVID-19 cases is now the highest ever recorded by any country. This means that the outbreak in India currently is worse than it was at the peak in the United States – the worst-hit nation in the world.

It took more than five months for the country to reach the bleak milestone of 10 lakh COVID-19 cases. The next 10 lakh came in just 21 days. The third was faster still in a fortnight.

Also, 1,021 more patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said. The death toll now stands at 62,550.

This is the fourth consecutive day that India reported more than 1,000 deaths.

About 76.47 per cent (26,48,998) people have recovered from the infection so far, including 65,050 patients discharged on Friday. Another 21.72 per cent (7,52,424) are still under treatment.

The number of COVID-19 sample testing labs has increased to 1576. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 3,94,77,848 samples have been tested in the country so far, including 9,01,338 on Friday.
