Colombo: Wet weather continues to chase India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
After their group league clash in Pallekele was washed out on September 2, the organisers made an exception for the marque Super 4 fixture at Colombo’s Premadasa Stadium and allocated a reserve day.
That turned out to be a wise move as rain and wet outfield allowed just 24.1 overs of play on September 10.
India are scheduled to resume at the overnight score of 147/2, with Virat Kohli (8) and KL Rahul (17) at the crease.
The skies had cleared after early morning showers, but a drizzle returned just before the 3 pm resumption. The pitch and its surrounding areas are currently under covers, with ground staff trying to remove excess waters from those covers.
Once the rain fully stops, the covers will be taken off and umpires will inspect the ground.
Even if the pitch is not affected, the outfield has to be dry enough so that there’s no risk for players, especially the fielders.
Overs won’t be deducted in the 50-overs-a-side match for an hour and a half from scheduled resumption of play.
But there’s no guarantee of a full game as the weather for the rest of the day is uncertain.
To remind readers, there has to be at least a 20-over game for a result in an ODI.
So keep your fingers crossed, and hope for a full game.
