New Delhi: For the fourth day in a row, India registered its highest single-day spike of 28,637 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s caseload closer to the 8.5 lakh-mark at 8,49,553 on Sunday.
The death toll rose to 22,674 with 551 more succumbing to the infection across the country in the same period, the Union Health Ministry said.
On a positive note, the number of recovered cases (5,15,386) surpassed active cases by 2,42,362. The national recovery rate also improved to 62.78 per cent.
The rapid spread of the virus has increased India’s share in daily global caseload to nearly 12 per cent.
The Indian Council Of Medical Research said 1,15,87,153 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far in the country, including 2,80,151 on Saturday.
