New Delhi: A record addition of 96,551 cases in the last 24 hours took India’s COVID-19 tally past 45.5 lakh to 45,62,415 on Friday.
This is the country’s highest single-day surge in COVID-19 cases.
Besides, the Union Health Ministry informed on Friday that 1,209 more patients succumbed to the infection in India in the past 24 hours, taking the toll to 76,271- the highest single-day surge in corona fatalities.
At present, there are 9,43,480 active cases in the country (20.58 percent of the total cases) and the recovery rate stands at 77.74 percent. Altogether, 35,42,664 patients in the country have been cured so far with over 70,880 recoveries recorded in the last 24 hours.
Even as there has been been an unprecedented rise in COVID-19 cases, there has been a 100 percent surge in recovered patients in the last 29 days, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.
India has conducted more than five crore total tests. According to the Indian Council For Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 5,40,97,975 samples have been tested to date, including Thursday’s 11,63,542.
