Washington: US President Donald Trump has once again slammed India’s trade ties with Russia on Thursday. Trump said he does not care what India does with Russia after accusing both nations of having “dead economies.”
“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “We have done very little business with India, their Tariffs are too high, among the highest in the World,” he adds.
“Likewise, Russia and the USA do almost no business together. Let’s keep it that way, and tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory!” he writes.
This comes a day after he announced a 25% tariff on Indian imports and penalties over its trade and defence relationship with Russia.
Earlier, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said in a post on X on Monday that the US President was playing “the ultimatum game” with Russia. He had also mentioned that such an approach could lead to a war involving the US.
Trump said on Monday that he was disappointed in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s failure to end the war in Ukraine. He had also mentioned that he was reducing a deadline to agree a peace settlement from 50 days to 10 or 12.
‘Who knows Pakistan may be selling oil to India….”
Meanwhile, Trump on Wednesday (local time) announced a trade deal with Pakistan. He touted a joint initiative to develop oil reserves in India’s neighbour. He has even floated the idea that “some day” Islamabad might sell oil to New Delhi.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “We have just concluded a Deal with the Country of Pakistan, whereby Pakistan and the United States will work together on developing their massive Oil Reserves. We are in the process of choosing the Oil Company that will lead this Partnership. Who knows, maybe they’ll be selling Oil to India some day!”
Trump on South Korea
“We are very busy in the White House today working on Trade Deals. I have spoken to the Leaders of many Countries, all of whom want to make the United States “extremely happy.” I will be meeting with the South Korean Trade Delegation this afternoon. South Korea is right now at a 25% Tariff, but they have an offer to buy down those Tariffs. I will be interested in hearing what that offer is,” the post read.
He also noted that many countries are currently making offers to the US for “Tariff reduction.”
“Likewise, other Countries are making offers for a Tariff reduction. All of this will help reduce our Trade Deficit in a very major way. A full report will be released at the appropriate time. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” it further read.
