Navi Mumbai: The Women in Blue are the toast of the nation after pulling off a record 339-run chase in the ODI World Cup semifinal to dethrone the near-invincible champions Australia.
One more win, and India will be crowned world champions in women’s ODI cricket for the first time.
A day before the final at Navi Mumbai’s D Y Patil Stadium, the craze for tickets went through the roof. But fans were left frustrated over the chaotic situation regarding ticket sales.
There were long queues at the ticket counters outside D Y Patil Stadium on Saturday with some people waiting overnight, since Friday. There was no clarity from the organisers on when offline ticket sales will begin.
As for online tickets, tickets for the final were available prior to the India versus Australia semifinal on BookMyShow, the official ticketing partner for the tournament. A chunk of tickets was sold, but not tickets have been released over the last two days after India booked their berth in the title round.
The event page is currently showing ‘sold out’ message.
Obviously fans are angry and frustrated. They have been venting their feelings on social media platforms, their ire directed at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
They are questioning how a major event like the World Cup could face logistical issues hours before the final.
Some tickets were available on some websites, where the prices ranged between Rs 6,500 and Rs 1.3 lakh.
While tickets for the World Cup started from Rs 150, Viagogo website showed that tickets for Section VIP B L1 was listed at Rs 1,36,187.
Come Sunday night, ICC will crown a new Women’s World Cup champion. Neither India nor South Africa has gone the distance thus far. The Indians will be hoping to be third time lucky, having lost the finals in 2007 and 2017.
