Chittagong (Bangladesh): Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Chittagong suspended its operations indefinitely amid rising security concerns in the country. This was announced on the IVAC Bangladesh website on Sunday.
IVAC Bangladesh said the suspension of all visa-related services at the Chittagong facility will remain in force until further notice. This came after security was tightened around the Assistant High Commission office in the Upashahar area and the visa application centre in Shobhanighat in Bangladesh, reported Hindustan Times.
“The announcement for reopening the visa centre will be made after reviewing the situation,” the statement said, adding that applicants with scheduled appointments will be informed about rescheduled dates in due course.
The suspension comes amid widespread unrest across Bangladesh triggered by the death of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, whose shooting and subsequent passing have sparked protests in major cities. Earlier this week, India had closed its visa centres in Dhaka and Rajshahi. The Dhaka centre, however, resumed functioning.
