New Delhi: India’s COVID-19 tally zoomed past the 31-lakh mark to stand at 31,06,348 on Monday with 61,408 more positive cases reported overnight.
Besides, 846 fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours in the country, the Union Health Ministry said.
However, the fatality rate dipped below 2 per cent and stood at 1.87 per cent with a total of 57,691 COVID-19 deaths so far. India’s Case Fatality Rate (CFR) of 1.86 per cent is one of the lowest globally.
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
About 75.26 per cent (23,38,036) people have recovered from the infection, including 57,469 patients discharged On Sunday and 23.24 per cent (7,10,771) are still under treatment.
The ministry also said the gap between recoveries and active cases continued to widen, with the number of patients recovering currently more than three times the active cases.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 3,59,02,137 samples have been tested in the country so far, including 6,09,917 on Sunday.
