India’s COVID-19 Case Tally Tops 49 Lakh, Death Toll Crosses 80K

New Delhi: With the addition of 83,809 COVID-19 infections overnight, India’s case tally sprinted past 49 lakh on Tuesday to stand at 49,30,237.

Also, 1,054 more patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday. The total toll stands at 80,776. This comes as the country reported more than 1,000 daily deaths for 14 days in a row.

About 78.28 per cent (38,59,399) people have recovered from the infection so far, including 79,292 patients discharged on Monday. Another 20.08 per cent (9,90,061) are still under treatment.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 5,72,39,428 samples have been tested in the country so far, including 9,78,500 on Monday.
