India’s COVID-19 Tally Zooms Past 30 Lakh In A Fortnight
New Delhi: India reported a huge single-day surge in COVID-19 cases with 69,239 people testing positive on Sunday, pushing the country’s tally past 30 lakh to stand at 30,44,940.
The number of coronavirus cases in India crossed three million in just 15 days after the country reported two million cases, according to data.
Besides, 912 fatalities were reported overnight in the country, the Health Ministry said. However, the fatality rate dipped below 2 per cent and stood at 1.87 per cent with a total of 56,706 COVID-19 deaths so far.
About 74.69 per cent (22,80,566) people have recovered, including 57,989 patients in the last 24 hours, 23.43 per cent (7,07,668) are still under treatment.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 3,52,92,220 samples have been tested in the country so far, including 8,01,147 on Saturday.
India has also been testing around 74.7 people per lakh population, much higher than WHO’s guidelines of testing 14 people per lakh population, the apex health research body said.
