New Delhi: IndiGo has processed refunds totalling Rs 610 crore and delivered 3,000 pieces of baggage to passengers, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said on Sunday.
The government has set an 8 pm deadline for the airline to complete all refunds for the December 5 to 15 period.
“To ensure financial protection for passengers, the Ministry issued strict directives to IndiGo requiring that all refunds for cancelled or severely delayed flights be completed by 8:00 PM today. IndiGo has so far processed refunds totalling Rs 610 crore,” a MoCA statement said.
On the sixth day of nationwide flight disruptions, cancellations and delays continued but there was a marked improvement in IndiGo’s performance.
The airline, which normally operates around 2,300 domestic flights daily, ran around 1,560 flights on Saturday – up from 706 on Friday. On Sunday, IndiGo’s target was 1,650 flights, as it set about reconnecting 135 of its 138 destinations.
CEO Pieter Elbers, who has been issued a showcause notice by DGCA to explain the unprecedented meltdown in services, said the airline’s On Time Performance has reached 75 per cent.
Even as the government asked IndiGo to restore services completely by Monday, the airline has set December 10 as the target for full network stabilisation.
