Bhubaneswar: With an aim to accelerate the progress of the ongoing infrastructural projects, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra visited Ganjam and Gajapati districts to review the irrigation works in progress.
Accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary, Water Resources, Anu Garg and 5T Secretary V K Pandian, the Chief Secretary reviewed Ghatakeswar Irrigation Project in Kukudakhandi block. The multipurpose project is being developed over river Ghadaka at a cost of Rs 172.06 crore.
District officials, including Collector Vijay Amrit Kulange and Berhampur Sub-Collector Keerthi Vasan V informed the visiting officials about the progress of the project.
Located at a distance of about 20 km from Berhampur city, this project has a catchment area of about 23.55 sq kms and would irrigate around 600 hectares in Kukudakhandi block. In addition to this, the project would also supply 8.25 MLD drinking water to more than one lakh people of Berhampur and adjoining areas.
The officers interacted with technical team on site and directed them to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe of December 2022.
After reviewing the project, the senior officers visited Purunapatna High School of Kankia panchayat which has recently been transformed under the 5T initiatives of the Government.
In Gajapati district, the officials reviewed various issues associated with the Chheligarh multipurpose irrigation project and stressed early completion of the project.
Once completed, the Chheligarh project will enable irrigation facilities for more than 6,000 hectares of farm land in Ganjam and Gajapati districts and provide 32 megawatts of hydro power.
The project also entails digging of a 1280 meter long tunnel to channel water. Gajapati Collector Lingaraj Panda and other officials were present during the review meeting.
