Kolkata/Bhubaneswar: Three days after a medical student from Odisha was allegedly assaulted near the campus in West Bengal’s Durgapur, the medical report on Monday reportedly indicated that she was raped.
Police sources said that the initial medical report further mentions that the survivor, a second-year medical student, has wounds on her private parts. The medical report also mentions massive bleeding due to the wounds. Doctors initially believed that the bleeding and wounds were caused by rape, IANS reported.
The survivor is now undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Durgapur.
“Initial medical report confirms rape. The student has wounds in her private part. A detailed medical examination report is awaited,” a source was quoted in the report as saying.
Meanwhile, all five accused in the gangrape case have been arrested.
The male friend of the medical student with whom she went out for dinner that fateful night is being questioned by police in regarding the incident.
As per police, all those arrested in the Durgapur incident will undergo DNA tests. The police are making arrangements for it.
The medical student from Odisha was allegedly gang-raped on Friday after she went out with her male friend for dinner.
Police said the student had stepped out of the campus with her friend when a group of young men on motorcycles accosted them and made lewd comments.
The men allegedly chased away her friend, dragged her to a forest area behind the campus, and gang-raped her. They also snatched her mobile phone and threw it away.
The male friend returned with others from the college and found the injured student on the ground. She was taken to a local hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. A complaint was lodged at Durgapur New Township Police against five persons.
Meanwhile, a three-member team of the Odisha State Commission for Women, led by Chairperson Sovana Mohanty visited Durgapur to enquire about the health condition of the rape survivor.
Commission chairperson said the team will also meet the family members of the medical student, besides meeting her to enquire about her health condition.
This apart, th0e team will hold discussions with the local police and the West Bengal Director General of Police, Rajeev Kumar, to ascertain whether the investigation is being conducted properly. The team will later submit a report to the Odisha government, Mohanty added.
