Berhampur: The Forest officials of Berhampur Range rescued an injured hyena from a road near Darubhadra village under Hinjili tehsil of Ganjam district and took the wild animal to the hospital for treatment on Friday.
Berhampur divisional forest officer (DFO) Amlan Nayak directed a team of the forest officials led by Ranger Dilip Kumar Martha to go to the spot after Bijendra Majhi and Dharmaraj Patra, secretary and member respectively of Anchalika Bikas Parishad spotted the hyena and informed the DFO. The hyena was injured after it was hit by an unknown vehicle, sources said.
In another incident, the carcass of a female elephant was found from a forest near Durgaprasad village under Mujagada Forest Range of the district.
On being informed, Forest officials went to the spot and sent the carcass for post-mortem. The department officials are investigating the cause of death of the elephant.
