Bhubaneswar: A tusker was spotted on the Bharatpur-Chandaka road in Bhubaneswar on Thursday morning, disrupting traffic movement and creating panic among people.
The tusker, which was provided medical aid two days ago after it sustained injury, was seen roaming on the busy road near Andharua Square.
Sources said the elephant was tranquilised and treated on Tuesday after sustaining an injury to its front left leg. The injury caused swelling in the animal’s left leg. Following treatment, the animal had moved into the forest.
Following its appearance on the road, a large number of people gathered at the spot to catch a glimpse of the animal. Many vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road creating concern among the regular commuters passing on the road.
Questions are now being raised as to how the tusker moved onto the road despite reportedly being unfit to walk.
After learning about the incident, Forest Department officials have reached the spot and are trying to drive the elephant back to the forest.
