Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das on Tuesday strongly opposed the use of the term Chardham by BJP leader and actor Anubhav Mohanty for the title of his upcoming movie.
“What kind of Odia is this Asmita!!! The holy word ‘Charidham’, refers to the spiritual journey of devotees to four holy pilgrimage places in Hindu religion,” the former Union Minister said in a post on social media.
However, the banner shows four religions in such a shame, which is unacceptable, he said.
“This is truly disgusting and an insult to our culture and traditions. Where did Odia Asmita go!! Why do some people want to insult Odisha and Odia people by continuously encouraging obscenity?” the PCC chief sought to know.
Unfortunately, the main actor in this banner is the leader of BJP, the party which grabbed power by campaigning about Odia Asmita and Hindutva, the senior Congress leader said.
Anubhav and others associated with the film were not immediately available for comment on the remarks made by the senior Congress leader.
Notably, the first poster of the Odia film Charidham – A Journey Within, starring Anubhav Mohanty, was unveiled in June this year. The big-budget film is slated for release across Odisha during the Durga Puja festival.
