Bhubaneswar: To ensure road safety on national highways, the Odisha government has decided to introduce Integrated Highway Traffic Management System (IHTMS).
Announcing this here on Saturday, Transport Commissioner Sanjib Panda said new CCTV surveillance system will be permanently installed between Rameswar in Khurda and Chandikhol in Jajpur soon to detect major violations like over-speeding, triple-riding, helmet and seat belt rules. It automatically generate e-challans with pictorial/visual proof against the violators.
However, the transport commissioner was not in favour of strict enforcement of the new traffic rules under this new system. “Let there be frequent checking of vehicles and collection of fines. But it should not be done under the new Motor Vehicle Act. The objective of the new system should be road safety and the safety of the people by minimizing accidents on the highways,” he pointed out.
