Bhubaneswar: After a brief interlude, most parts of Odisha are again in the grip of intense cold wave with mercury dipping below 10 degree Celsius at 12 places on Wednesday.
According to a release by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Daringbadi in Kandhamal district was the coldest in the state at 4 degree Celsius while temperature remained below 10 degrees in Sonepur (7.6), Malkangiri (8.5), Phulbani (6.3), Koraput (8.6), Bhawanipatna (8.5), Sambalpur (7.8), Keonjhar (7.4), Jharsuguda (7.6), Baripada (9.5), Angul (6.6) and Balasore (9.6).
Besides, temperature in the remaining parts of the state also came down sharply.
The night temperature fell by about 3 degree Celsius in the twin cities of Cuttack (10.5) and Bhubaneswar (10.8).
“There was a rise in the night temperature in the state due to the cloudy weather under the influence of a cyclonic circulation and a trough line over Odisha which had triggered light to moderate rainfall in some parts of south-interior and the northern districts in the last two days. Following a change in the weather condition, we had predicted a fall in the night temperature by about 2-3 degrees in the coastal areas and 4-5 degree in the interior areas of the state,” Duty Officer of the Meteorological Centre Laxmidhar Mahapatra, told the media here.
The cold wave condition will prevail in the state till next 24 hours till January 31, he added.
