Bhubaneswar: Even as the well-marked low pressure over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression in 48 hours, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department on Sunday issued a nowcast warning for 17 districts of Odisha, including Cuttack city, till 5 pm.
Light to moderate rain/thundershowers with one or two intense/heavy spells of rain are likely in some parts of Balangir, Bargarh, Nuapada, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Kendrapada, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul and Dhenkanal during the next three hours.
The MeT office also warned about waterlogging in low-lying areas, occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban areas.
According to the IMD forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Balangir, Ganjam, Puri and Rayagada during the next 24 hours. Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in Gajapati, Nawarangpur, Sonepur, Nuapada, Khurda, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara Angul and Bargarh during this period.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely over northwest Bay of Bengal along & off Odisha & West Bengal coasts and Andaman Sea, it added.
