Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that the intensity of the cyclone Fani, which is gradually inching closer to the Odisha coast and most likely make landfall in the afternoon of May 3, will be greater than that of Cyclone Titli that hit the south Odisha coast last year.
“As per data collected from the Doppler radars, the intensity and dimension of Cyclone Fani will be much higher than that of cyclone Titli and lesser than that of Cyclone Phailin in 2013. But the impact of cyclone Fani will be the same as that of cyclone Hudhud that had swept the Odisha coast in 2014,” Additional Director General (ADG), Mrutyunjay Mahapatra told mediapersons in New Delhi.
He, however, said that the impact of cyclone Fani would be much less than that of the Supercyclone of 1999.
