Internet Services Suspended Again At Farmers’ Protest Sites
New Delhi: Not for the first time, internet services were suspended in areas where the farmers have been protesting since November 26.
In view of the ‘chakka jam’ staged by the farmers in the NCR region and rest of the country, the Union Home Ministry ordered internet to be shut down at Singhu, Ghazipur, and Tikri borders of Delhi till midnight on Saturday.
The government had cut off internet connectivity temporarily on January 26 after farmers clashed with police and a group of protesters even stormed Red Fort to unfurl a religious flag during the tractor rally.
On January 30, too, such a step was taken to ‘maintain public safety and averting public emergency under Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules 2017.
