IPL Betting Racket Busted In Odisha’s Deogarh, Two Arrested

Deogarh: Police on Wednesday busted a betting racket on IPL matches in a village of the district.

According to police sources, acting on a tip-off about the racket, a police team conducted a raid on Pravashuni village under Deogarh police limits. They found two persons engaged in the betting racket over phones and internet.

The police arrested the two persons and seized Rs 9 lakh, a laptop, four mobile phones, 7 gm of gold and ATM cards from their possession.

Speaking to Odisha Bytes on the modus operandi of the racketeers, Deogarh SP Raj Kishore Paikray said they were luring the innocent people to bet for getting instant high returns of their money.

“The racketeers were running the betting through www.satkamatka.com site. It was nothing less than gambling. They were also putting money on the IPL matches and giving double the amount put in by any person if his team wins the match,” said Paikray.
