Tehran: US President Donald Trump was very upset and furious after Iran rejected a ceasefire proposal on Monday, reported Reuters.
“I am very upset.. they are going to pay a big price,” Trump said.
Iran turned down America’s proposal and conveyed its response through Pakistan, state news agency Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
Tehran thus made it clear it is not open to a temporary truce, stressing on the need for a “permanent end to war.”
Iran’s 10-clause framework goes beyond an immediate ceasefire. It includes demands for an end to conflicts across the region, protocols to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, lifting of sanctions, and provisions for reconstruction.
Trump acknowledged ongoing negotiations, saying that Iran had made a “significant proposal,” but it falls short of expectations. “It’s not good enough, but it’s a very significant step,” he said.
He added that the situation “could end very quickly” if Iran complies with certain expectations. “They have to do certain things. They know that. The people there now are much more reasonable than the lunatics that you had in phase 1 and phase 2,” Trump said.
The US President gave an update on two US airmen rescued in Iran. “They are both recovering very well. They were both injured — and they’re doing well.”
