Islamabad: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi landed in Pakistan’s capital on Tuesday, after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin, as part of a broader diplomatic effort to de-escalate tensions with the United States.
As per Press TV, this marks his third visit to Pakistan in the past 48 hours.
The visit caps a string of top-level meetings across nations like Russia and Oman.
Pakistan’s frequent hosting of Araghchi signals its central position as a mediator, notably in facilitating covert exchanges between Iran and the US, ANI reported.
Araghchi recently conferred with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, addressing bilateral relations and regional dynamics.
In a Telegram post, Araghchi detailed the over 90-minute discussion: “We had a very good meeting with Mr Putin. It probably lasted more than an hour and a half. All issues, both in bilateral relations and regional issues, as well as the issue of war and aggression by the US and Zionist regimes, were discussed and examined in detail.”
He further noted talks on Tehran-Moscow collaboration, including ideas to broaden ties.
Araghchi labeled Iran-Russia relations a “strategic partnership” and appreciated Moscow’s solidarity amid the crisis: “In the recent war, it became clear that Iran has great friends and allies like Russia; we thank you for your positions and support.”
Iranian state media quoted Putin pledging support for West Asian peace restoration and Iran’s positions, while expressing optimism for prompt regional calm.
White House Eyes Iranian Proposal
Meanwhile, in Washington, the White House acknowledged deliberations on Iran’s offer to conclude the conflict and restore Strait of Hormuz access. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump reviewed it with national security advisors.
“The proposal was being discussed,” Leavitt said, adding that further details would be shared by the President.
The framework seeks to end fighting and reopen the vital waterway, postponing nuclear discussions for later.
