Tehran: Iran’s Parliament on Sunday approved a motion to charge ships for receiving services in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency reported.
A spokesperson for Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, as reported by Iran’s Mehr News agency, said fees would be collected from ships of countries authorised to pass through Hormuz. The fees will be collected in rials or any other currency desired by Iran.
Article 3 of the Strategic Action Plan to Ensure Security and Progress in the Strait of Hormuz was approved by the parliament, spokesperson, Hassan Qashqavi, told reporters. This norm article upholds the rights, sovereignty and national security of littoral states.
According to reports, Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, had cautioned on Saturday that if economic burden on Tehran would continue, the Iranian government would target the oil exports of the Persian Gulf countries, the economic interests of the United States, and countries allied with Washington.
