Patna: There are some characters in every field who stand out for different reasons.
Lalu Prasad Yadav is one of them.
A leading politician from Bihar, Lalu has served as his state’s chief minister and also Union minister. A controversial person who has been linked to several scams and even spent time in prison, Lalu is also known for his sense of humour.
No wonder he has been the subject of much interest and attention over the years.
It will come as no surprise if a film is made on Lalu’s life and times.
Though it’s not official, a biopic on Lalu is in the works for the past 5-6 months, Hindustan Times reported quoting a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) official.
“The film is indeed happening and work has been going on for last 5-6 months,” the official said.
Another source told HT that eminent producer, director and screenwriter Prakash Jha will be helming the project.
“The rights of the script has been taken from Lalu’s family and Prakash Jha’s production will be taking forward the project. Lalu’s son Tejashwi Prasad is financing it and the money has been already given out to kickstart the work,” the source informed.
The biopic is expected to delve into lesser-known aspects of Lalu’s life, and final touches are being given to the script. The casting will reportedly begin soon, with Bollywood artists likely to be roped in.
When contacted, about his possible association with such a project, Jha laughed it off.
But that may be for reasons of secrecy.
Jha is known for making political and socio-political films, like ‘Gangaajal’, ‘Raajneeti’, ‘Arakshan’, ‘Apaharan’, ‘Damul’ and ‘Satyagraha’.
We’ll have to wait to find out whether, indeed, Jha is taking up Project Lalu.
